The Edwin H. Mookini Library provides various services to students, faculty, and staff of the University Hawai‘i System involved in distance learning. These services include access to online resources, course reserves, reference assistance, and instruction.

UH Hilo and HawCC distance learners can contact the Distance Learning Librarian, Amy Saxton, at saxton@hawaii.edu or 808.974.7733 or email mookini@hawaii.edu To chat with Amy and get reference help or other assistance, use the meebo me widget (no login necessary).

Distance Learners in Hilo:
All University of Hawai‘i faculty, staff, and students may use Mookini Library's computers; access requires a UHHL Account. Go to the terminal near the Reference Desk and use your UH username to get your UHHL Account, which will allow you to login to UH Hilo campus computers.

Distance Learners at Other Sites:
UH Hilo and HawCC distance learners are able to access restricted databases remotely with a current, validated UH ID number. You can validate your ID online (note: online validation is not immediate). Write to mookini@hawaii.edu if you have questions.

Librarians are available at the Reference Desk most hours that the Library is open. You may also call 974.7346 for assistance. Individuals requiring TTY access can call 974.7311. Other accommodations for accessibility can also be arranged.

The Circulation Desk is where you can validate your UH ID and borrow materials, including reserves (required course readings or videotapes). You can also validate your ID online (note: online validation is not immediate).

A loan service is also available if the UH library nearest you doesn't have the materials you need. UH Hilo and HawCC distance learners at other sites should consult with a librarian at their site library for more information about obtaining materials. Fees and restrictions may apply.

LILO (Learning Information Literacy Online) is a self-paced, web-based tutorial covering the research process.

Research guides to services and resources for specific subject areas are also available.

For Faculty:

Faculty can arrange library orientation and instruction for their classes to teach students how to use the library more effectively in Hilo and other sites upon request. Contact Amy Saxton (974.7733 or saxton@hawaii.edu) to make an appointment. Simultaneous sessions at multiple sites can be arranged with sufficient advance notice.

Reserve Requests - All requests to place material on reserve should be placed at your home site library. Electronic reserves may be available with proper copyright clearances.
